Lovecraft H P

I bought a hardback copy of the H P Lovecraft anthology “Great Tales of `Horror” yesterday. Great reading! I’m not really into horror and other related genres but the classic horror genre is a genuinely well crafted read and at times, Lovecraft borders on science fiction. I’m finding the stories great stimuli for music composition. Arthur Machen, Edgar Allan Poe and Brothers Grimm to follow, I think.

I’m not mad keen on horror or ‘the dark side stuff’ but a well crafted story that gets pictures in my head with a little fright works for me. Otherwise, I’m mostly into classic children’s novels – Tom’s Midnight Garden, Wolves of Willoughby Chase, Anne of Green Gables (honestly), Carrie’s War, The hound of Ulster to name but a few because they’re generally much better written. Oh! Harry Potter too! I grew up on science fiction though, although I haven’t read any since I was about fifteen. I loved Robert Heinlein, Arthur C Clarke, Theodore Sturgeon, Isaac Asimov etc.
Sorry, I went on a bit there. I only ever get to talk to kids about books.
Thanks for the reply Andy, still waiting to get to see you live!
