I paid a visit to Gamlin’s Music Centre, Cardiff today and tried a fantastic used Larrivee LV-19 Grand Auditorium Cutaway acoustic guitar. I remember being interested in it when it was priced at £1399. Now it has been reduced to £999 (with original hard case), it’s an unbeatable bargain and I’m sorely tempted to buy it.
To play it felt very much like my Brook Tamar, very responsive to the pull-offs that have become part of my style and very even across the fingerboard and up the neck. Intonation was perfect. It sounded almost as good as my Brook with just a little less bass and nice singing treble.
The only negative point that could dissuade me from buying the instrument is that the low E / sixth string is quite close to the edge of the fingerboard. Not usually a problem unless, like me, you drop that string down to C. Then, it’s just a little too easy to push the string over the edge of the fingerboard.
Thanks to Christan for letting me demo it and I’m still thinking about selling some stuff to get it if it’s still for sale when I have the funds. Something tells me however, that it won’t be there too long at the price of £999!
